Tax Preparers (Advanced)

Home/Tax-Aide Center/Tax-Aide Volunteer Portal/Tax Preparers (Advanced)

Training

Virtual training (or self-training) is required and is scheduled for January 6, 7, 13, and 14 for tax preparers.  There are also 4 practice problems from the NTTC Workbook that are required for preparers: Hanson, Janisch, Geribaldi, and Fitzgerald (all done for tax year 2025 in the Practice Lab; Fitzgerald also needs to have the Ohio return completed.). Time will be given during training to work on these but they need to be completed by Jan 15.

Written tests from the 6744 Test/Retest booklet

The advanced training and testing is Link and Learn from the IRS.  Here’s the link.   Note that you can take the tests and record your answers (on page 3 of the 6744) and LATER record your answers in Link & Learn.

Hopefully you have already completed the Volunteer Standards of Conduct, and the Intake/Interview tests (If you haven’t go to the page for All Volunteers).

In addition, you’ll need to complete the Advanced test (pages 75-115); use of the Practice Lab is necessary. Link to the Practice Lab (you can get the password from Anne or Don).

When you are sure of your answers (see option for help below), you can enter your test answers.

If you are a new preparer, then you should just wait to take the advanced test until after we do training in January.
